Introducing the 40th Edition of the Pinnacle of Irish Whiskey
To move forward, you must understand what has come before – and the rich history of Midleton Very Rare, built on craftsmanship and doing what’s best for our whiskey, is a past worth reflecting on and learning from.
Four decades ago, the rich heritage of Midleton Very Rare began as small amounts of the outstanding whiskeys were set aside—this exemplary tradition continues with Midleton Very Rare 2023 Vintage.
Opens with an intricate medley of fruits including nectarines, ripe melon, green apple, and apricot. A solid foundation of pot still spices, showcasing notes of freshly peeled ginger and crushed peppercorns, work in tandem with the aged grain’s perfumed notes of dried flowers and delectable golden syrup. The oak continues to reveal itself, adding notes of vanilla, combined with a honeycomb sweetness and freshly roasted coffee beans.
Luscious at first with succulent fruits and a distinctive creaminess along with a herbal quality akin to camomile tea. The pot still spices add depth and intrigue as they weave amongst the floral grain qualities found lingering throughout. The charred oak’s influence continues to build over time creating additional complexity as the wood-derived spices complement the ever-present fruits of candied orange and dried apricot.
The fruits and pot still spices build to a crescendo before giving way, leaving the final say to the oak tannins and antique grain whiskey.
The latest chapter of this renowned collection is adorned with the signature of our Master Distiller, Kevin O’Gorman. After months of exploration, O’Gorman crafted a balanced blend of rare and hand-selected single pot still and single grain Irish whiskeys from Midleton’s exclusive inventory to create this truly special release.
In 1984 Midleton Very Rare whiskey came in a hard cardboard box, lined with golden fabric. This case was a sturdy home for this whiskey. Midleton Very Rare has always been whiskey built on expertise, craftsmanship and a long-standing history of excellence—and we will never change that, but it is also one built on envisioning a better tomorrow. The first ‘tomorrow’ we hoped to see, was one of a revitalised Irish whiskey industry, and of course, this is a reality we now see and operate in with pride. But this next ‘better tomorrow’, that still lies ahead—and we can’t wait to share our plans for seeing it come to be, so we can all live and savour our Irish whiskey in a greener, more serene future.
With this outstanding new Midleton Very Rare 2023 Vintage release comes a luxurious take on improving the impact we have on the lands around us–new striking and sustainable packaging. We hope you appreciate the new home for your whiskey as much as we’ve enjoyed perfecting it.
“The beauty of Midleton Very Rare, is that no two vintages are exactly alike. The uncompromising annual selection ritual, leads to subtle, but recognisable differences between each release.”
