MIDLETON VERY RARE IRISH CHESTNUT EDITION
A world-first Irish whiskey finished in Irish sweet chestnut hogshead casks, crafted from wood sourced at the historic Cappoquin Estate in County Waterford.
Midleton Very Rare is proud to unveil Irish Chestnut Edition, an exceptionally rare and distinctive Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey. The inaugural expression in the Rare Wood Collection, this pioneering release explores how exceptional and unconventional woods can shape extraordinary Irish whiskey.
The journey began with six carefully selected Irish sweet chestnut trees from the historic Cappoquin Estate. The staves were air-dried for two years before being lightly toasted and coopered into bespoke hogshead casks. A carefully selected combination of light, medium and heavy style Single Pot Still whiskeys, initially matured in American oak bourbon barrels for between 12 and 19 years, was then finished in the Irish sweet chestnut hogsheads for a further five years.

The result is a whiskey that balances the distinctive influence of Irish sweet chestnut with Midleton Very Rare’s signature elegance. Rich caramel sweetness, woodland spices and earthy wood notes are complemented by a distinctive nutty character, creating a complex and refined expression that confidently pushes the boundaries of Irish whiskey tradition.
Bottled at natural cask strength and non-chill filtered, Midleton Very Rare Irish Chestnut Edition has an age profile of 17 to 24 years. It is a celebration of Irish provenance, innovation and craftsmanship, shaped by the land, the wood and the expertise of the craftspeople behind it.
TASTING NOTES

NOSE
Decadent aromas of honey-drizzled red apple and caramelised orange peel. Luscious tones of melted chocolate and toffee fudge are balanced by woodland spices, including nutmeg, cinnamon and sandalwood, with rich, nutty undertones.
TASTE
Sweet orchard fruits and subtle citrus are followed by waves of vanilla, chocolate shavings and soft wood tannins. Pot still spices and delicate herbs build into notes of freshly crushed pepper and a mild prickle of chilli oil, balanced by the textured, full-bodied character of this aged Single Pot Still whiskey.
FINISH
A lasting finish where the fruits slowly fade, allowing the pot still spices and chestnut wood to have the final say.
