Creating the Vintage Collection: 2025 Edition
In the world of Midleton Very Rare, nothing is ever created by chance. Every note is carefully chosen. Every cask is expertly considered. Every drop patiently perfected. Our most recent edition to our revered Vintage Collection, our 2025 Vintage, is no different.
To mark Midleton Distillery’s 200th anniversary, the creation of the 2025 Vintage demanded something extraordinary. Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman and his team turned to the roots of their craft—seeking inspiration in the deepest corners of Warehouse A2, where the rarest and best-performing whiskeys quietly wait.

What they found was not one story, but six. For the first time in the history of the collection, the vintage has been created from six distillate styles—each a different voice in a shared harmony. Together, they form a blend that is richer, more textured, more layered than any that has come before. The process began with the grain. Three styles were selected—one familiar, two rare. A 22-year-old grain whiskey, crafted from barley and malted barley, matured in refill ex-American oak barrels. Alongside it, a 21-year-old grain, similarly aged, lending soft sweetness and a thread of butterscotch and vanilla. The third, Midleton’s signature grain, light and floral, brought a gentle freshness to the composition.
With the grain as foundation, the pot still contribution was increased—a deliberate move to introduce more structure, more spice, more depth. The team crafted three prototypes. Each one an exploration. A conversation between styles, between decades, between wood and whiskey. The final blend emerged after careful refinement, by enhancing the influence of first-fill barrels in the pot still component, the whiskey found its final form—an exquisite balance between richness and restraint.
The result of this time, dedication and expert craftsmanship is a spirit that dances between flavours. Maturation in the ex-American whiskey oak barrels, allows the luscious sweetness and rich butterscotch notes of the distillate to shine through. With the increased pot still contribution, an intricate layer of complexity with deep spice and stone fruit notes, beautifully complementing the sweet toffee, butterscotch, gentle floral and cut grass nuances of the grain whiskey. The shape of the blend. The weight of the finish. The architecture of flavour. Every decision, made with 200 years of inspiration in mind.
