Forêt de Tronçais
Introducing a rare symphonic masterpiece of whiskey craftsmanship and luxury, an exceptionally small-batch release that’s a first of its kind. This rare release marries the pinnacle of Irish whiskey with the Pinnacle of French Oak from the Forêt de Tronçais in France – Midleton Very Rare Forêt de Tronçais.
Forêt de Tronçais was brought to life through expertise and craftsmanship that spans generations. Together, knowledge passed down from one Master Distiller to another and Taransaud Cooperage’s passion for coopering brings us a treasure for whiskey collectors looking for a rare and luxurious whiskey.
The Pinnacle of Irish Whiskey Meets the Pinnacle of French Oak
This release features a bespoke batch of very special Midleton single grain and single pot still whiskeys from the 1980s to 2000s matured in American bourbon barrels.

This blend was expertly selected and surveyed under the watchful eye of Midleton Very Rare Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman. It was then finished for three years in a T5 cask from Taransaud Cooperage – a cask is as luxurious and rare as the whiskey aged inside.
T5 casks are world-renowned for the high degree of skill required to make them. They are carefully coopered from the striking, manicured oak of Tronçais Forest. This oak produces a very fine-grain wood which is naturally seasoned in the open air for five years before being made into this specialty cask.

This marriage of two of the world’s rarest and most intricately detailed pieces of whiskey history is the perfect addition to Midleton Very Rare’s whiskey collection. With only a limited number of bottles available, Midleton Very Rare Forêt de Tronçais is a truly luxurious release.
Tasting Notes
Aroma
Oak-enriched perfumed aromas with delectable fruit notes of poached pears, caramelized apples, and orange zest. Additional notes of honeycomb and toasted hazelnut continue to evolve in tandem with the building aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans. The woodland spices are brought to the fore by the elegant and measured influence of the extra fine-grained French oak, adding nuanced characteristics that enhance the pot still spices and floral grain whiskeys in this complex and aged blend.
Taste
Herbal at first, with notes of fresh peppermint and sage, weaving amongst the succulent orchard fruits and zesty orange. The oak’s subtle tannins complement the chocolate-dipped honeycomb and sweet vanilla, adding to the luscious, silken texture synonymous with Midleton’s pot still and grain whiskeys. Elevated wood spices continue to evolve, adding further complexity to this intricate whiskey.
Finish
Exquisitely long finish where the fruits and spices are enveloped by the enchanting nature of the toasted wood, showcasing a harmonious balance between Irish whiskey and French oak.
