Midleton Very Rare - Midleton Distillery

Old Midleton Distillery

With a distilling history dating back to the 19th century, Midleton’s natural bounty has long inspired the creation of exceptional whiskey.

Built on the banks of the crystalline Dungourney River, Midleton Distillery has always had deep connections with the land. The river’s waters provide the perfect foundation for premium Irish whiskey.

Our History

Part of Cork’s history and culture for 150 years, the old Midleton Distillery opened in 1825.

Even through times of great hardship, the roots of Irish whiskey production stayed strong in East Cork. The whiskey industry’s resurgence in the 1980s saw the launch of the Midleton Very Rare’s critically acclaimed range of vintages.

The distillery was brought back to life in 2020 through the Silent Distillery Collection. This incredibly rare set of releases captures the pioneering spirit of Old Midleton Distillery and embodies an extraordinary decade of experimentation and innovation.

New Midleton Distillery

The new Midleton Distillery opened in 1975, and it’s now home to seven brands of Irish whiskey. Here, we continue to make innovative single pot still whiskies the highest quality. At the heart of this new distillery sits the Barry Crockett Still House – a fitting tribute to Midleton Very Rare’s creator.

The new distillery is just as much part of the fabric of County Cork as the original. Sourcing local ingredients, including water from the Dungourney River, Midleton Distillery is synonymous with Cork’s place, culture, and legacy.
