Rarity Stemmed from the Fiery Passion of the Midleton ‘Fire Men’

The Old Midleton Distillery was home to a copper pot still made from sheets of gleaming copper. Assembled and installed in 1854, it was said to be the largest pot still in the world, affectionately proclaimed “the 7th wonder of the whiskey world”. While the copper infiltrated the spirit to create masterpiece after masterpiece, it was the Midleton ‘Fire Men’ who controlled the creation.

Under the watchful eyes and skilled hands of the Midleton Fire Men, the fire was tamed and coaxed under the precious copper pot still. By controlling its temperature with sheer skill and intricate movement, the still was said to heat more than 30,000 gallons of liquid in a single day. This glorious display of craftsmanship still lies behind the now locked doors of the Old Midleton Distillery, but the product of its fiery blaze can still be seen, and savoured by a select few.

The Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection, a prestigious portfolio of ultra-rare whiskeys are born from this blaze. A luxurious taste of the Old Midleton ways, the essence of the fiery passion found in the new distillery and its teams today.
